Good solid exercise mat. I use it mainly to stretch and do ab work. Only annoyance is that since it rolls up, it tends to stay rolled at the very end, instead of being laid out flat. But it's not really an issue for me, because I don't stretch my body the entire length of the mat.

I bought this mat to use with my P90X Workout DVDs. I wanted to use it as:

- yoga mat,

- padding for jumping jacks/running/lounges,

- ab work

It is ideal for ab work - it has a great thickness and the foam gives very good padding. But for the rest, it's not so good. For yoga, whenever I'm in a position that requires to stretch and press against the floor (like downward dog, for instance), the mat stretches with me, which is very frustrating. And it may be dangerous.

When I jump on it, it tends to move just a tiny bit, and the foam rubbing against the floor makes an awful, loud noise.

Plus, I used it while wearing my cross-training shoes, and my foot touched the mat while bringing a leg forward in a plank. It ripped it.

I would give it 2 1/2 stars, but it's not an option. It's a nice enough mat, but you need to use it for static stuff only, and probably not wear shoes with a substantial sole.

We've had this mat for over six years and we have a big family so it has stood up to a lot of use and abuse! From somersaults and much jumping to use as a mattress for sleepovers, the mat still looks good and performs great. We received our mat as a gift from Grandma who thought it would come in handy for our homeschool physical education program and she was right. For years it fit under our couch when folded until needed (and until we changed couches). We strongly recommend this hardy mat.

This mat provides excellent padding and traction for the exercises I do which include situps and kneeing on my basement concrete floor. It is also easy to clean and stow away. At 5/8", it is one of the thickest mats not for gymnastics or martial arts that I could find. Highly recommended.

I am a 55 year young woman who was encouraged by my personal trainer to take Pilates to strengthen my core and improve my balance. The mats provided at the gym were meant for Yoga, and while they kept me from slipping on the floor, doing any sort of exercise where we were required to lie on our sides just killed my hip joints. This thicker mat was a lifesaver. It was thick enough to cushion my hip joints as well as enable me to exercise barefooted, something I had great difficult doing due to massive amounts of foot surgery (don't you just love high heels?). I had read a review that the mat could only be rolled one direction because of the built in straps, thus creating a permanent curl. This was easily remedied by flipping the mat over when using it, and I had no problem with the mat slipping when being used on the opposite side. For me, it accomplished exactly what I wanted it to do - protected my bones while I got the exercise I needed.

These mats fit together easily and make a nice large surface. The price is definitely better than anything I saw in my local stores. However, these mats don't work so well as an exercise surface. I am doing P90X and was looking for a mat that would give me nice support and stable base, but this mat travels across my floor constantly, so I have to stop to move it back into place. In a 60 minute workout, I need to stop 5-10 times to re-adjust the mat. It also is a bit slippery for doing push ups. My feet are sliding quite a bit.

This mat would work well for a baby's room or living area with a hard floor looking to protect a young one, but not so much as an exercise mat.

We put this foam down in our living room, where our daughter is learning to walk. After falling down and hitting her head on the hard wood floor a few times, we knew we needed something else since we had no carpet in our downstairs living area. This fits the bill perfectly. The pieces interlock perfectly; they are light and easy to install and easy to carry outside for cleaning. When we are done with them or will want to use them, the 48 square feet breaks down into a manageable size for easy storage or installation somewhere else. This is a good value over what you may purchase at Lowes or Home Depot because border pieces are included which make the edges much more aesthetically pleasing, and not leaving the jigsaw shapes visible.
